Hello,
While reading my Face Book page last week, something struck me. I noticed just how many of these posts were set up to promote the person's business.
Now, please don't take from this that I am against promotion and marketing. Far from it, I believe that correctly targeted advertising can make all the difference to a business. Just take some of the excellent marketing campaigns that have helped make certain companies into household names, such as Geico Insurance.
When I go on Face Book I want to connect with my friends. I do not want to buy products. Having Face Book as a marketplace seems just completely opposite to my vision of social networking. The real issue here is that I have no control over what these posts promote and that many people in my friend list are not known to each other and get inadvertently included in a thread.
My own principle here is that entering into a relationship for the sole reason of selling yourself actually dooms that relationship to failure. There are many examples of this from door to door salesmen to network marketing schemes. If a relationship is a one-way flow, then it usually ends abruptly.
Have a great week.
Malcolm
